Family testimonials

Equipped with a bike trailer or a trailer cycle, they didn’t think twice about taking their young kids cycling! And they are right, because La Vélodyssée is particularly child-friendly: it’s a completely waymarked bike trail running along several greenways, providing maximum safety for your little ones.

1420 km - 51 days- July & August 2016

This Franco-German family took a real holiday! 2 months on La Vélodyssée from Nantes to St-Jean-de-Luz, with alternate days spent cycling, resting and sightseeing.

5 new stages of 26, 33, 36, 37 and 41 km! It wasn’t what we intended... but with short detours here and there, to go and see something, find a bread shop, a grocery or a bivouacking spot, well at the end of the day, the km all add up;-) We were really impressed with the kids because we never expected to be able to do such distances, especially with our little 6 year old!
[...] lots of wonderful landscapes, some great people and perfect weather (just one rainy day)

8-month Tour of France - 2016

2 parents and 2 children on La Vélodyssée10th April 2016: the big departure day for this 2-children family setting off for an 8-month, 6800 km journey around France with a trailer cycle for the eldest child and a bike trailer for the youngest. Their route brought them to La Vélodyssée for the first time in June on the Royan to La Rochelle section. They were here again in autumn 2016 to do the whole route from Finistère to the Basque Country: a beautiful way to end their round-France Tour...

August 2013 - from Royan to Brittany

Riding with children on La VélodysséeAs we have done for the last 4 years, we again decided to go on a cycling holiday along the Atlantic Coast following La Vélodyssée. We had already cycled the southern section from Royan to Biarritz, and as we wanted to end our holiday on the ile de Groix this time, we decided to leave from Royan once again, but in a northerly direction. This will be the last year that Rose travels in the trailer, because she has grown a lot and is starting to be a bit cramped in there, but she isn’t ready to pedal all day yet.

Fledgling family travellers (ages 7 and 15 months) // we love the Atlantic Coast!

La Vélodyssée: 285 km - 2 weeks – July 2013

A cycling holiday by the sea for this 2-child family from La Rochelle to the Dune du Pilat, with excursions to Ré Island and Bordeaux. In total: 2 bikes for the parents, 1 trailer, 1 baby seat, 350 km pedalled and lots of happy memories!

family on La Vélodyssée

The positive points for the kids were: the wonderful array of Atlantic Coast landscapes, the big brother’s pride at having achieved this exploit when he had never done such intensive cycling before, the joy of being together in our little family bubble, feeling closer to each other than ever, the pleasure of doing new things, meeting people and the possibility of travelling certain sections by train or boat.    .
